ABOUT

Who We Are

Hi there, I’m sure you’re wondering who we are and why we are doing what we are doing. To make a long story short, some of us are expats from the US, some of us have been born and raised in Mexico and a couple of us travel back and forth between the US and Mexico. After the events of November 5, 2024 friends and family started asking how to make the move to Mexico and social media platforms were and are being flooded with similar requests, searching for the same knowledge. So, as expats with several years under our belts, we wanted to help in every way possible. That is why we’ve launched our new endeavor called “Intro to Mexico” to help make your transition to your new life in Mexico as smooth as possible.

My experience of living in Mexico was eye opening to say the least. The culture was much different than the way I grew up. It was an adjustment. The way living in Mexico helped me grow as a person, was an experience I needed in my life. I was able to relax and learn to construct a different way of approaching life and the people in my life. I didn’t realize the difference until I visited the States again and how much the time spent living in Mexico was needed.

My last visit to Mexico was my first visit with my daughter, and I've never felt more safe on a trip than visiting San Cristobal. No matter what happens here in the US, I know that San Cristobal is a place in the world where I feel safe and welcomed as a mother. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to experience Mexican culture, and give my children that experience, too. And it's amazing how much more calm and relaxed I am in the US after having seen a different way of living.

Lenore, 34

I attended the Intro to Mexico class because I wanted to take a break from my day to day life in the US and learn more about what it was like to live life in Mexico generally, and specifically, in San Cristobal de Las Casas. I had already made some significant changes in my professional and personal life and was looking for what I wanted for my next chapter. I didn’t expect the impact that immersing myself in an unfamiliar and ancient culture and talking about those experiences would have on me. Things I had taken for granted and thought were necessary to my life - my beliefs, roles, masks, and descriptions of the world -  turned out to be irrelevant to life in San Cristobal, leaving me free to take a fresh and unvarnished look at who I am and what is actually important in my life. The process of discovery was fascinating, sometimes disorienting and frustrating, often humbling, but ultimately deeply satisfying. After my first visit, I arranged to come back for an extended stay and then decided to relocate to Mexico.
